Yuzu

Yuzu (Citrus junos) is a rare and highly aromatic citrus fruit primarily cultivated in East Asia, particularly Japan, where it is a cornerstone of the culinary and cultural landscape. Roughly the size of a tangerine with an uneven, bumpy skin, it is rarely eaten as a whole fruit due to its intense tartness and numerous seeds; instead, its zest and juice are prized for a flavor profile that sits somewhere between a lemon, a mandarin, and a grapefruit. It is the star ingredient in ponzu sauce and yuzu kosho (a fermented chili paste), and its rind is traditionally floated in hot baths during the winter solstice to promote circulation and skin health. Because the trees are slow-growing and the fruit is difficult to harvest, yuzu remains a premium, sought-after ingredient in high-end gastronomy and perfumery alike.

About Yuzu

Mandarin Orange Meets Ichang Papeda

Yuzu is a small citrus fruit native to East Asia, particularly China, Korea, and Japan. It grows on thorny trees and resembles a small, bumpy-skinned grapefruit, with a color that ranges from green to yellow when ripe. Yuzu has a thick rind and contains many seeds, with relatively little juice compared to other citrus fruits. The fruit develops best in cool to temperate climates and is typically harvested in late fall to early winter. Yuzu has been cultivated for centuries and holds cultural significance, especially in Japan, where it is traditionally used in seasonal practices such as winter baths.
